Archie (born April 7, 2003) is a Border Collie - Kelpie cross who had the misfortune to go through a few less than ideal homes before he came to live in Newfoundland. He still has problems trusting strangers who want to touch him but has become quite affectionate with his own humans. He enjoys herding large balls, skateboards and the ski machine as well as playing frisbee, stairball, practicing obedience, learning tricks and doing flyball and agility. He is an uncommonly good dog but is becoming confident enough in his present home to occasionally be a naughty boy.
Baxter is a Welsh Springer Spaniel from Trystyn Kennels, who was born in
2003. Baxter has been doing agility since he was a puppy in Ontario and Saskatchewan, but he took a two-year hiatus while his family welcomed their baby, DJ, and moved to Newfoundland. Prior to moving to Newfoundland, Baxter got his Specials Starters Game Title in AAC. Baxter's hobbies include going for walks, swimming, playing ball, following DJ around the house in hopes of getting free food handouts, and seeking hugs from everyone.
Bella is a black sable German Shepherd who literally got stuck on her way into the world in July 2007 and she hasn't let anything hold her back since!! She is a very fun loving and exuberant shepherd who has a fabulous, funny personality that's mixed together with being strong minded!! She is a celebration dog - she enjoys every minute of the day and has quite a zest for life and everyone in it!! She is a great working dog and is currently doing obedience training; however she is first and foremost a social butterfly who loves to have her doggy friends come over to play in the backyard or to go running through the woods chasing squirrels. She is a natural jumper and has found her calling in agility. Bella also enjoys chasing balls or going for walks then coming home to have a good snooze on a Sealy posturpedic bed!! Bella hangs out with and is loved by her human Rose Browne.
Bender (born 2006) is a beagle mix who was adopted as a puppy from the SPCA. She is an extremely friendly dog with an endless amount of energy. Some of Bender's favourite things to do are sniff everything, go for walks and hikes, rides in the truck, play with her four-legged friends and of course agility. Agility has been a great way to burn some of that Energizer Bunny energy and getting her nose off the ground (which isn't always easy). She knows a few tricks and will be best friends with anyone who will give her a treat!
Bridget (a.k.a. Harbour Deep Merry Mack SW) is a Standard Wirehair Dachshund born on May 20, 2007. She has been involved in agility since the Fall of 2007 and absolutely loves it. She has enthusiastically learned the tunnel, table, walking on plank boards, and going over poles flat on the ground in the puppy class, and looks forward to putting these skills to work as she progresses to more advanced levels in the coming year.
Casey is a Standard Wirehair Dachshund who only recently discovered agility and loves it. His favorite pieces of agility equipment are the A-frame and
dog walk - he seems mystified by the weave-poles... but he'll get there. In his other life, he known as Harbour Deep Victory at Sea SW, and is a Canadian Champion in conformation. He was born in St. John's and lives with a large pack of eight other Dachshunds.
Cash is a Golden Retriever from Saltwater Golden Retrievers and was born on November 10, 2003 in St John’s, NL. He is a super friendly dog who loves playing outside, going for hikes, walks and swims. Cash, while ruled by his stomach, will also do anything for a game of ball which has helped him develop a love of flyball since joining in Feb 2008. Cash loves to play with other dogs, but truly enjoys spending time with any human who will scratch him. Cash is looking forward to earning the top prize in Flyball – the ball itself!!
Cooper is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who was born September 12, 2005 at Maracaibo Kennels. Cooper has a mild temperament, loves attention and is the ultimate lap dog. He shares his home with two cats Millie and Pepper. We figured Cooper would be great for agility after seeing him navigate through our home chasing and jumping after our cats. Cooper's pastimes include naptime, mealtime, and bedtime! Cooper has completed the starter class for agility and is looking forward to learning more in the future.
Dakota is a long-coated German Shepherd born in April 2005. We adopted him from the SPCA in March 2007. He has a wonderful temperament-friendly, fun-loving and energetic. He started Agility in August 2007, and loves it. Dakota enjoys going for walks, playing ball in enclosed fields, playing with his toys, and eating freshly-baked cakes and cookies when no one is looking. He is also extremely talented at shedding. We love him dearly.
Dresden (aka Hargrindobes TJ Dresden Sauran) was born September 2005
right
here in Newfoundland and has lived with us since he was 6 weeks old.
Before testing his agility talents he had done several obedience classes and
has tried his hand at Rally-O. He also has his Canine Good Neighbor
Certificate from the CKC. Outside of classes he enjoys anything to get his "beans" out - running, playing and hiking. But of course at the end of the
day he's always looking for a good snuggle on the couch. He is a very
social and energetic "little" boy and will do just about anything for food.
Eirik (Regalridge Eirik the Victorious), is an Airedale Terrier, the son of a Canadian champion. He was born in April 2002 in Nova Scotia and came to us at 7 weeks old. Like most Airedales, he rules the world. His passion is soccer, but anything that involves running around in the woods, swimming or getting into muddy puddles is fine. He will do agility, sometimes, if he feels like it at the time, and likewise flyball. Basically, he just wants to have fun. He is intensely sociable with both animals and humans.
Harald has an Icelandic name to go with his foster brother, Eirik. Our son rescued his mother from appalling circumstances when Harald and his two surviving brothers were four days old, in November 2005. He came to us when he was 11 weeks old and is still thanking us profusely. He is beautiful, powerful and fast and he loves everyone, especially people who don’t mind cuddling him for hours. He has Beginners Agility and Flyball and hopes to progress further, if his owners can keep up.
Hope was born sometime in November of 2004 somewhere in Michigan. Hope and nine litter mates were brought to a shelter around three weeks of age, where they were put into foster homes. I was lucky enough to have found her on PetFinder and after a lot of begging the shelter agreed to let me adopt her. Out of the ten puppies, four were deaf; Hope was one of them. I purposely went looking for a deaf dog to adopt. She lives with two other dogs, Kaylin a black lab and Clio a shepherd cross, as well as a cat named Izzy. Hope loves people and other dogs, and likes to spend time at the dog park. But her favorite thing to do is spend time at home wrestling with Kaylin and Clio.
Jack is a fun-loving black Lab (born in 2002) who has never met a dog or a
person he didn't like (he's especially fond of his adoptive sister Molly). Besides his agility training, Jack is a champion counter surfer, and can smell treats at 100 metres.
Jason (born 2004) is a Belgian Groenendael from Hungary who came to live with us almost 2 years ago. He is a very energetic and outgoing Belgian who loves life and everyone in it. We fell in love with his outgoing personality and just had to have him. He and his girlfriend Taboo had a litter of 4 puppies last year and he hopes to continue to pass his genes on. As well as his CH title, he just received his BH, a Schuzthund title for basic obedience with a temperament test. He is currently working on his CD title and hopes to finish off the 1st level of agility when classes begin again in the spring.
Jet is a male black Labrador Retriever (born in 2000). He is a friendly,
outgoing dog who loves to play. Given a choice, he'd choose swimming in the summer and burying
his ball in the snow in the winter. Jet also enjoyed flyball but he had to
give that sport a break as he has a tendency to slam into the box even when
managing to perform a correct swimmers-turn. He is
enjoying agility and gets very excited when we arrive at class. He also
competes in the obedience ring, has his CD and is currently working on
his CDX. Every month Jet visits Masonic Park. He enjoys visiting the
seniors and is even happier if they give him a treat. Every lab likes to
fill his belly!!!! If they have no treats he is content to have his butt
scratched. Jet lives in Mount Pearl with Jennie Murphy.
Jaeger a.k.a. Ch. Chieftains on the Rocks, is a male boxer who was born in 2005. Jaeger came to us after months of research into the breed and breeders. We chose the boxer largely because of temperament and their physical attributes. We wanted a dog that was friendly with other dogs and people, had lots of energy, and we fell in love with the squishy face. Jaeger has completed his Canadian Championship in conformation, and has
dabbled in obedience (although it is not his forte). The agility is a wonderful outlet for a high energy dog such as Jaeger, and it's a great way for him to get out those "boxer burns" too.
Katie (a.k.a. Telstar's Kiss me Kate - and she likes to kiss a lot!) is a madly jumping little red Doberman from Texas who came to us late Summer 2007. Born (2007) a typical red Dobe, she is a little crazy, very energetic and affectionate and has miles of energy to spare. "Do not let them jump as puppies," we are told as we watch Katie jump right over the
couch, over the coffee table and into our arms. She loves to herd other dogs into corners (sure we could get a herding title on her!) and was almost expelled from puppy class for herding all the other puppies into a corner and not letting them out. We think she has great potential as an agility dog.
Kisha (aka Hargrindobes TJ Kisha) was born here in Newfoundland in Sept
2005. She has tried the Conformation ring and the Obedience ring but neither
has been as much fun for her as Agility! She is the most wonderful dog our family has had the pleasure of being owned by ! As if you didn't know you don't own a Doberman they own you. She loves
to spend time with her Doberman family whom most of them are NADA dogs
too..Sky (her Dad), Nadja (her twin sister!) and Dresden (her brother) and
of course Katie ( her adopted crazy sister!). At home she is pretty low key
spending her time lounging around on the couch or on our bed, but in the
Agility ring she can fly!
Krypton (born 2000) is a Belgian Tervuren who competes in obedience and agility. He obtained his CDX title with numerous HIT's and was the #2 obedience Belgian in Canada in 2005 and #3 in 2004. Both of these years he was also the #1 ranked all-breed obedience dog in NL. While he is shy with people and very grumpy with other dogs, he found a place in my heart forever. The tremendous amount of work that has been put into this dog is worth every moment and then some. Since I never thought that he would ever be brave enough to go into an obedience ring he has surpassed all of my expectations. He even travelled back and forth from New Brunswick. for 2 years by plane, boat, and automobile with me while I attended school. He is currently working on his utility title and we hope to see him in the ring next year.
Lexi, a sable German Shepherd was born in July of 2007. She is a serious girl (unlike her sister Bella!!!) who approaches most tasks intensely and with passion. She likes to tug, chase balls and to go for long walks. She particularly enjoys agility and it would appear one of her favorite pieces of equipment is the table! Lexi also attends obedience classes and in time will enter the obedience show ring. Lexi loves a good cuddle and I look forward to a long and wonderful relationship with her. She is handled/loved by Jennie Murphy and bossed around by Jet, a 8 year old black Lab.
Max is a yellow lab who was born in December 2003. He was adopted in July 2005 from the Central Indiana Lab Rescue, and is very food oriented. For a large dog (90 lbs/40 kg), he is very agile and loves tunnels: apparently, there is cheese at the end of tunnels. When not working on his project to dig to China in the back yard, he can be found wallowing in the mud.
Mickey was born in Montana, 14 March, 2004. She is a Border Collie - Lab cross with a tough beginning to life, though you would never know it now. She had six months of abuse by an older dog followed by six months living in a kennel with little human interaction. She is now very social with everyone and willing to act like your best friend if you are willing to throw a ball of Frisbee. In agility, as in life, Mickey's favourite equipment is anything involving jumping. Mickey's favourite question, "Do you want to...?" gets her most excited because everything in life is fun..
Molly (born in 2005) is a mixed breed with a passion for fetching tennis
balls, which she will do for hours on land or sea. She was brought to the
city humane shelter as a puppy along with her mother and three siblings, all
of whom found good homes. Her pedigree is uncertain but she definitely has a
Lab appetite.
Molly was adopted from Humane Services in September 2007 when she was about a year old. She seems to be a mix of many breeds, but there is definitely some border collie and maybe even a little Tasmanian devil in there! Before she was rescued Molly spent her days tied on outdoors and pacing in little circles, but luckily she seems to be forgetting all that. Nowadays she likes to go for car rides, hikes, play with her teddy bears and chase tennis balls! Molly started flyball during the winter and will be doing agility soon. She really loves her classes and all her new people friends are helping her to overcome her fear of strangers.
Mz Ze. Sra Zeila de Pinta na Bunda (Zé) was born September 2007 (best guess). She
is a German Short-haired Pointer who was under-loved by her first people. She
is originally from the west coast but is really happy to be a Newfoundlander
now (except it can be a little chilly at times). Mz Ze loves to work and play hard. With energy to spare she has taken to agility like a
duck to water. Her focus now is to try really hard to follow the course but
she finds it a bit tedious at times. Her best day is running the trails and
pointing at birds, practicing her agility skills, and then curling up on her
princess bed after a big feed of expensive dog food.
Nadja (Ch Hargrindobes TJ Nadja) was born Sept 2005 and is an uncropped Dobe who got her confirmation Championship title before getting a little too chunky for the show ring. From puppyhood, she was different and liked to walk on a plank across the pond, open cupboards with her twin sister Kisha
and steal things off shelves. Cupboards were boarded up and she settled down and took her position as lowest dog on the totem pole. Then came AGILITY. She blossomed, asserted herself, became her master's top dog, and steals things with renewed energy and interest. We have seen a big change in confidence and energy for little Nadja.
Niki is a 10-year-old sort-of Shelti cross. We found her waiting for us nine years ago in the SPCA Shelter in St. John's. She loves going for off-leash
walks especially if mud puddles are part of the deal. She's a darling dog and has been known to flirt outrageously. She really enjoys agility - particularly the part where she gets treats. Although a senior citizen in dog years, Niki is not ready to slow down, not yet - no how! If life is a piece of cake, agility training is the icing. My name is Niki but you may call me Princess Mudpuddle.
Queen is a pure-bred Border Collie born in December 2004. We picked Queen up from a farm a little north of Toronto, when she was seven months old. With her Irish-Scottish blood, she's taken quite naturally to Newfoundland. By nature, Queen is very hard working, energetic, athletic, and loves to please! She quite enjoys her agility classes in which she's been involved since June 2007. Queen also enjoys playing Frisbee and soccer, and herding and protecting Julie (our cat)!
Rain is has been participating in agility since June 2007. She is a retired
racing greyhound from the United States, and has been enjoying retired life
since June 2005. In her racing career, she raced 16 races, where she did win
one race at a time of 31.00 seconds on a 503 meter track. Rain graduated
from obedience class in 2005. She was born in 2003, and her favorite
pastimes are sleeping (she is a 45-mph couch potato), playing with
toys, and going for walks. Rain also loves going to enclosed fields where
she can stretch her legs and run to her hearts content!
Rosie is a black standard poodle who was born in June 2006. She is very friendly and full of energy and has an independent spirit. Rosie enjoys hiking, playing catch, wrestling with her “brother” Oliver in the backyard, and visiting with her favorite nine-year old, Haley. She has just completed her first agility class and found it both fun and challenging – it’s really hard to concentrate when there are so many new people, dogs and smells. She looks forward to trying flyball and rejoining some of her newfound agility buddies this spring.
Sasha is a Border Collie mixed with something small, who was born in 2004 and adopted from the Humane Services as a pup. Sasha loves to laze around in a soft comfy bed, run circles around the other dogs at the dog park, herd people and other dogs (although she has never been taught, guess it's just natural) but her main loves are Flyball, and Agility. She has a big dog personality in a small dog package and a big set of lungs to go along with it!
Sky (Ch Heartfelt's Zin V Touchstone BPIS, BIS) is a Doberman from Texas, who was born in 2004. His name is short for Vronsky as we give Russian names to all our Dobes. He is busy in the show ring, rally obedience and agility, collecting several titles (as seen above) and managing to place absolute last with his mistress in an agility match. He is also the father of three other Dobes who are in NADA, Inc.: Dresden, Kisha and Nadja. He is just a really sweet Dobe who drools a lot (as do his kids), and insists on sleeping in the bed. He lives with Katie (Katya - Russian again), Nadja, Niki (Nikita who cannot do agility because of a knee injury) and our 175lb Dane, Frida
Spencer is a miniature schnauzer born in 2004 at Markwin Kennels in St. John's. He is very spirited, "talks" when he is having a puppy-massage, and loves to run with his ears flapping in the breeze. He rarely meets a dog that he doesn't like, as long as they know he is the boss. He loves to chew on tarter buster bones, do laps around the shed in the backyard, and spar with his step-brother, Ryker, another miniature schnauzer. Spencer has dabbled in obedience and is a new-comer to agility, setting out to prove that miniature schnauzers can-so be trained!
Tater (born 2004) is an All-Canadian dog who loves to play and snuggle on the couch. He is a very happy go lucky dog who hasn't met a person with a treat that he didn't like. In the fall of 2007, he was introduced to the sport of agility which he dearly loves. He is now looking forward to taking more classes in agility as well as learning about Flyball.
Taz (is a (mostly) black lab and was born (best guess) in December 2003. She was adopted in December 2004 from the Tippecanoe County Humane Society in Indiana in the US. Taz is short for "Tasmanian Devil" and her name reflects her energy level and personality.
Tiber is a sweet and gentle, 100-pound goof ball. He loves small, fuzzy toys
that make ridiculous squawks and takes one to bed with him every night. He
also rejoices in snuzzling smelly socks stolen from the laundry basket. In
August 2007 at age five, he came to us from a loving home that could no
longer look after him. He still visits his first family from time to time
and has a special place in his heart for small boys. Tiber really loves
agility although he's not too keen on the teeter-totter. He's very proud of
his intermediate-level certificate and loves running around the course,
practising with his human. However, he agrees with his instructor that
getting him to do the weave poles is like trying to re-route the Titanic.
