Hoopers Level 1:
Sundays, 7:30-8:30pm for 8 weeks, starting Jan 4th with Dawn Bignell & Dianne Ford
Prerequisites for this course: Successful completion of Dog Sports Foundations. Dogs must be comfortable and capable of working in a group setting, and they must have a reliable recall and not interrupt other dogs who are working with their handlers. It is also recommended that dogs have an ability to relax in a kennel, OR handlers should be willing to work with their dogs to help them become more content in a kennel.
Hoopers is a dog sport that is similar to agility in that the dog is directed around an obstacle course. The difference is that there are no jumps, weaves or contacts in Hoopers. Instead the obstacles are open-based hoops, barrels, gates, and short tunnels. The courses are designed such that there are no tight turns or wraps, except around barrels at the higher levels. In Hoopers Level 1, teams will be introduced to the obstacles used in the sport of Hoopers. Teams will work on developing forward-focus and distance work, and will be able to perform short sequences of obstacles by the end of the course. Dogs will be working off leash in this course, and multiple dogs will be working at one time. Barriers will be in place to separate working stations.
